Senior Tax Accountant

Position Summary

We are seeking an entrepreneurial-minded and motivated professional CPA / business advisor that wants to progress professionally, grow intellectually and be a part of our well-established (yet growing), fast-paced, boutique CPA firm in Charleston (Daniel Island), South Carolina.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a CPA and business advisor to a small business, entrepreneurial, and diverse client base in industries including, but not limited to, healthcare, real estate/construction, technology, and professional services.   

  • Collaborate directly with clients and DICPAs team.  

  • Performs preparation and/or review of complex federal, state, and local income taxes for primarily individuals and small businesses; prepare/review supporting accounting/tax workpapers. 

  • Perform tax research and tax planning.

  • Preparation and/or review of internal memorandum; written correspondence/guidance to clients and responses to the IRS/Treasury Department and/or state/local tax agencies.  

  • Support our internal, external, and client accountants/bookkeepers.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting required; Master’s Degree preferred.

  • CPA Certification required; maintain and develop technical skills/license requirements.

Experience

  • Generally, at least 3 years recent and relevant experience as an accountant / business advisor or equivalent in the public accounting field.  Small business / entrepreneurial client base preferred.  

Technical Ability

  • Strong accounting, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.  

  • Technical proficiency in tax preparation and related workpaper documentation in accordance with firm standards.    

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of tax law including the ability to perform research and to prepare technical memorandums as required.  

  • Performs preparation and/or review of complex federal, state, and local income tax returns for primarily individuals and small businesses; minimal estate/trusts and non-for-profit entities.  

  • Prepares quarterly estimated tax and extension payments and corresponding vouchers.

  • Interfaces with tax authorities and assists with gathering information. 

  • Strong computer skills.   

  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook/Work/Excel), Adobe Acrobat; QuickBooks (Desktop and Online); ProSeries Tax (experience preferred but not required).

  • Participates in the firm’s practice development efforts through involvement with current clients, referral sources, community organizations, and industry events.

  • Communicates assigned tasks (and status) to clients and team in a manner that is clear and concise ensuring high quality, accurate, and efficient results.

  • Identify and communicate issues, risks, and proactively recommend relevant solutions.    

  • Ability to flourish in a fast-paced complex environment and demonstrates a willingness and ability to change to new circumstances, information, challenges, etc.; Productive and efficient.    

  • Ability to handle pressure in a positive professional manner.  

  • Great multi-tasking skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, with minimal direction, and clearly communicate work status to clients and DICPAs team.

  • Strong organization and follow-up skills including the ability to handle competing priorities and meet all deadlines and commitments.  

  • Ability to give and follow instructions accurately and efficiently.  Proactive in asking clarifying questions to ensure work progresses towards desired outcome.  

Conditions

  • Work required from January 15 to April 15 and September 1 to October 15 may be in excess of 60 hours per week.  

  • Ability and willingness to travel to client sites (same day / minimal).
